Farewell Concert Planned for South Texas Chorale Legend Christopher Munn

In a farewell tribute to retiring chorale conductor, Christopher Munn, the Valley Symphony Orchestra  & Chorale (VSOCH) will perform music by Leonard Bernstein and Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov, February 28, 8 p.m., at the McAllen Civic Center.

Munn has taught thousands of students and performers throughout 29 years as chorale conductor and music professor at The University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg.

According to VSO Maestro Peter Dabrowski, “Christopher Munn has been the most prominent chorale conductor in the region for more than a quarter of a century. The music selected for the concert will capture the virtuosity of the chorale.”

Dabrowski explains that the concert begins with Bernstein’s brilliant overture to Candide. The Chichester Psalms, an iconic composition for chorale and orchestra sung in Hebrew, will follow.  During the second half of the program, the orchestra will offer a musical treat of the legend of Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov. The Russian composer is considered one of the greatest orchestrators in the history of music.

The Valley Symphony Orchestra & Chorale is a non-profit organization that has become a Valley cultural treasure and celebrates its 60th year this season.
